🦃 When the Parade Passes By
Leftovers are the best part
Welcome to the one hundred and eighth issue of Monday Morning Data Science from the Fred Hutch Data Science Laboratory. We are excited to show you what we have been working on (Fresh from the Lab), plus links that we think you would be interested in (Our Weekly Bookmarks Bar). Part of the purpose of this newsletter is to start conversations, so if you have a question or there is something you would like to share with us please let us know by responding directly to this email.
Fresh from the Lab
[Survey: Please Participate!] The ITCR Training Network (ITN) (led from Fred Hutch by Carrie Wright, Ava Hoffman, Elizabeth Humphries, and Kate Isaac) develops training materials, outreach tools, and community engagement activities to support informatics and cancer research. They are conducting a survey that seeks to understand participants’ challenges, interests, and experiences so ITN can improve resources, demonstrate impact, and guide future funding and publications.
[Video: Databot and NHANES Part 1 and Part 2] Fred Hutch OCDO Director of Training Ted Laderas explores Databot, an AI assistant built into Positron that accelerates exploratory data analysis by interactively generating, executing, and interpreting Python or R code. In these videos, Ted uses Databot to explore NHANES (the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) to get a feel for Databot’s capabilities.
[Pre-print: Insights into the Datasets, Tools, and Training Needs of the AnVIL Community] This pre-print, detailing the results of the the AnVIL Community Poll, highlights opportunities to expand adoption of the platform, especially among clinical researchers, and identified needs for improved training, cost-management resources, tool discovery, data import support, and increased virtual training options. The AnVIL platform offers a secure, cloud-based environment for analyzing, storing, and sharing genomic data.
Our Weekly Bookmarks Bar
[Funding Opportunity: Binaytara Implementation Science Research Awards] The Binaytara foundation is hosting the latest iteration of their Summit on Cancer Health Disparities, where they invite abstracts focused on cancer-related health disparities and equity, with eligible early abstract submissions automatically considered for the Impact Pitch research grant competition.
